Multiscale Modelling of Dielectric Materials and Related Structures
19-24 Sep 2021 Porquerolles Island (France)

WELCOME

In July 2018, we have organized the first Thematic School on Dielectrics, focused on the characterization and aging of insulators used in many domains of electrical engineering and electronics. This event was held at Porquerolles island and was a great success and a new edition is scheduled from September 19 to 24, 2021.

For this new edition, we have focused the theme on modelling aspects of dielectrics, covering a broad range of approaches, ranging from multi-physics modelling, lifetime models and physical chemistry approaches. We wish to maintain what made the originality and strength of the previous edition: the intervention of renowned researchers, the international openness and the articulation of courses with situational approaches through practical work / workshops. These workshops cover the use of software codes and tools as well as supporting experimentation.

TOPICS

• Issues and challenges related to insulation materials ;
• Nanomaterials / opportunities and open questions ;
• Theoretical basis on dielectric properties of materials ;
• Ab-initio methods and dynamic molecular methods ;
• Classical models for ageing, life expectancy, scaling laws ;
• Multi-physic modelling: tools, applications, risks ;
• Insulation characterization techniques ;
• New applications, technologies and stresses.

Besides main courses in the morning, students will be trained, by groups, on simulation desks and various measurement techniques on Lab test benches.

ORGANISATION & SPONSORS

The Thematic School is supported by the French National Centre of Scientific Research (CNRS) and the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS). The Dielectrics group of French Research network in Electrical Engineering (SEEDS) is the organizing body.
